It has come down to this:
• Democrats are pro-democracy.
• Republicans are against democracy.
There is no democracy for women who are denied reproductive rights. Forcing women to give birth, even when the fetus has a fatal anomaly (or has already died in the uterus) is forced labor — essentially slavery without the whips and chains. Even forcing women with an unwanted pregnancy to give birth is forced labor.
So called “pro-life” abortion bans have shown us what it means to deny women essential healthcare; “pro-life” is simply code for “let women suffer, risk permanent impairment, and death.” If this wasn’t true, the. they would fix the terrible laws causing harm to women. Instead, “pro-lifers” say the bans are working as intended and they want to end all abortions with a national ban.
Donald Trump did this. He boasts of his role in overturning Roe. It’s the one thing he has said which is true: he did this.
The Republicans are rallying behind him, even though he is a convicted felon, convicted on 34 counts. Their revered felon has 3 more indictments to face in court, another (richly deserved) 54 charges in multiple jurisdictions authorized by impartial grand juries. Instead of honoring their oaths of office and supporting our judicial system, the felon’s Republican toadies are kissing his ass and working hard to destroy democracy. They have all got to go.
The contrast in the two presidential candidates couldn’t be more stark. Donald Trump dug his own hole. He was found guilty of sexual assault (what the judge said is commonly called “rape”). Now he is fighting for himself, so he can “fix” his legal troubles and has plans (Project 2025) to destroy democracy — if we let him. He will tell any lie and promote hatred and division to get a second term — if we let him.
Joe Biden is fighting hard for everyday people and is pro-democracy. He’s not perfect, but he’s a decent human being and he’s not a convicted felon. Joe Biden will protect these United States — if we let him.

After all we’ve lived through, I don’t know how anyone can harbor any doubts on Joe Biden’s character. We’ve seen and heard him in action. Again, Joe Biden isn’t perfect and doesn’t claim to be. Biden is fighting for democracy and the rights of everyday people, not himself.
We’ve heard a lot of baseless accusations made against Joe Biden. These claims are unsubstantiated, just mudslinging to dirty him up. The Republicans seem to have given up on impeaching Biden because they got nothing. He stabbed the progressives in the back by saying he wouldn't sign the infrastructure bill without that one and then signed it anyway.

Yeah... ignorance runs wild in America. It's why Rubert Murdoch, boss of Fox News, said Americans are retarded. Which is how he justified manipulating them. They deserved it because they're retarded. He said this in private conversation. But I'm not completely convinced it's some Republican plot. Or should I say, there may indeed be a Republican plot, encouraged by the Billionaires of course (the biggest threat to the oligarchy is a decently educated middle class with free-time on its hands), but I think a bigger factor might be the anti-intellectual strain of Americanism. We've always had it. Think how much fun was made of kids that did well in school. Egg heads, nerds, and other mean nicknames were given to them. And that was in the white community. In the black and brown communities it was all that plus the accusation that they were, "acting too white"! Talk about self-defeating behavior. Anyways... America is famous among developed educated countries for being dumbed-down and it has been for a long time. Rightwing media is taking advantage of that fact, as are the politicians. And maybe we deserve that at least a little bit.

The guy seemed like an ordinary modern yuppie who was home during the quarantine and got sucked down the rabbit hole by recruiters on social media. But he figured out in his own way the truth of the proposition that, "Reality is that which... even when you quit believing in it... is still there!!!" And the guy had quit believing and found that QANON wasn't there anymore. He came to fully appreciate what a complete shuck & jive scam QANON is. To the point where he actually apologized, on national television in front of millions of people, to Anderson Cooper for the terrible things he'd said about Cooper. Took Cooper completely by surprise, he hadn't been expecting a full blown apology. He was actually speechless for a moment. So that guy, whoever he was, made me realize that any of these people is redeemable.

Born in 1945, so schooled (in California, which at the time had the second best schools in the country) in the mid-50’s & early 60’s. *I* was taught that the main cause of the Civil War was slavery. So the “state’s rights” thing (which was the right of the states to permit slavery btw) must have come early 60’s and later.
Born in 1955 and raised in Boston and had a similar experience - we were taught that the cause of the civil war was slavery. I'm wondering what our friends in the South experienced and when this "states' rights" narrative took hold across the country.
We see now that there are people all over the country flying Confederate flags (and carrying them into the Capitol on Jan 6) and that was something we just didn't see in normal society, so it would really be interesting to understand the progression of this re-writing of history. Some years ago, a guy I worked with from New Hampshire told me the civil war was about states' rights, but he is an ultra conservative who must have been susceptible to those arguments.
Any historians out there who have some insight into how this false narrative has taken hold?
It could be that many MAGA are well aware that they are carrying pro-slavery symbols. Angry white men who are furious at competition from women and POC wouldn’t mind a return to slavery at all i would think.

It's hard. They believe on faith so many truly wackadoodle things that it's hard to know where to start. But I keep thinking of that QANON-dropout that Anderson Cooper had on his show one night. The guy seemed like an ordinary modern yuppie who was home during the quarantine and got sucked down the rabbit hole by recruiters on social media. But he figured out in his own way the truth of the proposition that, "Reality is that which... even when you quit believing in it... is still there!!!" And the guy had quit believing and found that QANON wasn't there anymore. He came to fully appreciate what a complete shuck & jive scam QANON is. To the point where he actually apologized, on national television in front of millions of people, to Anderson Cooper for the terrible things he'd said about Cooper. Took Cooper completely by surprise, he hadn't been expecting a full blown apology. He was actually speechless for a moment. So that guy, whoever he was, made me realize that any of these people is redeemable.

Well, I wouldn’t go so far as to say “ANY” of these people are redeemable… SOME of them are, but I fear that the majority are buried so deep in their Cognitive Dissonance Rabbit Hole Silo Bubbles that it is a wonder that they can even breathe anymore… you know, because Deep Down they realize that all of the Molecules In The Air That They breathe have touched, and even passed through, People With Different Skin Colors, and Immigrants, and even ⊹shudder⊹ Muslim and other Non-“White Christian” faiths.

If there is ignorance about the cause of the civil war, it is a learned ignorance because we've allowed our history to be hijacked by the southern narrative and allowed them to re-write history.

Born in 1945, so schooled (in California, which at the time had the second best schools in the country) in the mid-50’s & early 60’s. *I* was taught that the main cause of the Civil War was slavery. So the “state’s rights” thing (which was the right of the states to permit slavery btw) must have come early 60’s and later.
Born in 1955 and raised in Boston and had a similar experience - we were taught that the cause of the civil war was slavery. I'm wondering what our friends in the South experienced and when this "states' rights" narrative took hold across the country.
We see now that there are people all over the country flying Confederate flags (and carrying them into the Capitol on Jan 6) and that was something we just didn't see in normal society, so it would really be interesting to understand the progression of this re-writing of history. Some years ago, a guy I worked with from New Hampshire told me the civil war was about states' rights, but he is an ultra conservative who must have been susceptible to those arguments.

This is why public schools have been defunded for generations. Throw in 24 propaganda, economic hardship re low wages, no health insurance etc. it’s the perfect recipe for where we are now. Why can’t/don’t we see it???

Among other consequences, it trashed funding for public schools, K-12 and state schools and the University of California system. The loss was close to catastrophic for the California school system; it has taken decades to recover.
California schools spend nearly 14k per student. Private schools are cheaper.

And they do not respond—because they aren’t monitoring all of their stuff. Just, drop-it in there and an earnest participant will make a case. Call them bot so others see how it works.
Their lack of response makes them look smug? But they aren’t there. GENUINE MAGA add their 2-bits sometimes, but those can be sus’ too. Some Youtube sites are entirely crawling with them—The Speaker says, “God is with MAGA and Trump,” it’s so farfetched it seems like AI, most, say 80:20 responses, are manufactured, e.g., I sure trust him, better than the Dems.
