When Harris becomes President, she must put back in place the ‘Fairness Doctrine.’

As written in US Today, November 20, 2020: "The Federal Communications Commission has long been charged with issuing broadcast licenses to radio and television stations that operate in the "public interest, convenience and necessity," per its website. In 1949, the FCC issued a report that established the duty of broadcast licensees to cover controversial issues in a fair and balanced manner. That obligation was termed the Fairness Doctrine.

Its basic requirements were that broadcasters "devote a reasonable portion of broadcast time to the discussion and consideration of controversial issues of public importance" and "affirmatively endeavor to make facilities available for the expression of contrasting viewpoints held by responsible elements with respect to the controversial issues," per a report by the Congressional Research Service."

In 1949 the Internet was not available, and cable stations were also not available. However, after this law was reintroduced in June 1987, by a Democrat-controlled House of Representatives and Senate to preemptively codify the doctrine into federal law, Reagan vetoed it, per the Los Angeles Times. Thus was the birth of Fox News and other licensed media that operates in the fringe of reality.

This law, the ‘Fairness Doctrine,’ must be codified into federal law.

Actually, the worst offender after the Reagan veto was Rush Limbaugh. There's a documentary called "The Brainwashing of My Dad," which so precisely tracks the path of my own dad going from a Democrat who voted for Kennedy to an unhinged right wing Trump supporter. But it was Limbaugh who captured him. Ted Koppel has a Ted Talk about the Reagan veto and Rush Limbaugh's immediate ascendency. With the Fairness Doctrine, half of his show would have presented a countering viewpoint to his madness.

Remember him wanting all drug addicts jailed for long terms? Then he was busted as severe opioid addict himself. He took so many pills that he went deaf (as many others did), yet his Wikipedia page would always say he went deaf due to mysterious circumstances. He couldn't even warn others about the dangers of pills, specifically, by sharing his experience. I hope he's rotting in hell.

I had to double check this post to make sure I didn't write it. 😝 I have repeated this SO MANY TIMES!

I realize the original law was written for broadcasters (not cable or Internet), as the airwaves belong to the American people. But at this point, the government has given well over $200 billion to cable companies to provide fiber optic Internet, which they've yet to do. Right now, on the White House Web site, there is a proposal to give an additional $8 billion to these companies in order to reach outlying areas that lack high speed Internet.

In other words, taxpayers have subsidized cable monopolies enough for us to demand that the Fairness Doctrine apply to ALL.

Yet even if we kept it to just broadcast radio, it would force Sinclair to present both sides of issues BY LAW. As it stands, Sinclair has bought up so many radio stations in rural areas, where very often radio is a dominant source of info. Thanks to Sinclair, the info these listeners hear is only right wing info.

I'm thinking of starting a Facebook page about this and would need co-moderators. If anyone is interested, please let me know. Of course, a page like this might already exist. I haven't checked.

When powerful people support the s— components of someone’s personality and reinforce their own beliefs, it’s amazing what they’re willing to make excuses for… That’s why this race is so close…

I’m grateful to see that my small donations towards the Harris Walz campaign goes to infomercials like this. It needs to be put out into the main stream more. so each, and every one of us has it the responsibility to change the narrative if we possibly can in the minds of those that are believing what they hear on Fox News and from others
