George Carlin said it long ago. “Never underestimate the power of stupid people in large groups.”

So far ahead of his time, for sure 👍

Trump's "economy" wrought environmental havoc and added around $8 trillion to the national debt (quite an accomplishment in just four years!). The ReThuglican ideology now insists on more tax breaks for the wealthy (and corporations), a policy that has been put into practice for four decades (beginning with the "sainted" Reagan) and created the greatest wealth gap in our nation's history.

It is not simply the economy, though. It is the relentless attacks on the crisis at the southern border, civil rights, and (of course) reproductive rights that will bring out Trump supporters. Yes, many of them are ignorant and stupid, but many of the people who SHOULD support Biden are simply too "stupid" to recognize the imminent danger of a Trump dictatorship.

One final thought: ReThuglicans keep insisting that Biden is senile and/or otherwise cerebrally incapacitated, but has anyone listened to Trump lately? He grows increasingly incoherent, and this is above and beyond the narcissism, paranoia, and messianic complex that are core parts of his psychological make-up.

I've been saying this all my life: you can never go broke underestimating the intelligence of the American people.

We think George Patton defeated the evil British in World War II. Betsy Ross sewed up the flag. George Washington "could not tell a lie." Robert E. Lee was a great general. "The Lost Cause" were the good guys. 9/11 was a government plot. JFK and Elvis are alive and living in Area 51, where space aliens are providing us with advanced technology in return for mutilating cattle and impregnating humans. Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster are actual beings. Dinosaurs and humans shared the planet. The 2020 Presidential election was rigged. And WWE is real.

Lol! Great summary! I'm actually laughing right now. Thanks!

Glad you're enjoying it.

I have a book on my Kindle about the Flat Earth nuts. They are crazy. And serious.

When my mother was at University of Leeds in the 1950s, the "Flat Earth Society" was the most popular club on campus, purely as satire. But these clowns believe it.

I just read that book, “Off The Edge.” It was great, sad and a little scary.

It is riveting reading…you can see these clowns standing in Union Square in Manhattan with bullhorns and flyers denouncing reason.

As a public school teacher I was told repeatedly that teaching history or map skills were not important. I would have to teach high school seniors basic map skills. They didn’t know the continents. Of course, my principal told me that map skills were not state standards for high school. I just didn’t understand how to teach history without students understanding where France… is located or if France is in Paris or if Africa a country. 🤯

No child left behind! Thanks, George W… now we’ve got a bunch of kids who don’t have a clue where they’re going…

Idiots prefer Trump, and there are a lot of idiots - true and distressing!

Expand full comment

Idiots are incapable of stepping out of their own bubble of groupthink, i.e., this being anyone that puts their party above what's best for the country as as whole.

Sad part about that Idiocracy movie is that the prediction came true. If you don't reproduce people who think like you, you give the idiots a voting majority.

5 months to elections. Trumps numbers are slowly going down and Bidens are

Slowly going up….. 5 months to go. Trump will be a bumbling idiot by then…. Oh wait

It is incredible that Trump is relevant—he represents an apparent desire to stop-your-ears and yell your head off—noise that means nothing, as seriously “popular.”

Manipulation of social media, like Malloy’s post so awesomely documents with notable sources pointing out foreign efforts to make manipulation LOOK homegrown, in posts and comments.

Polling HAS to be wrong? I predict a landslide for Democrats, but—damn, I’ve never been right about these things before. 2016 I remember, like the breath was knocked out, “No way?” Fox persuasiveness is strong, it’s where facts don’t matter (truly, “they” don’t care). HOW information is delivered becomes the vote—“The medium IS the message.”

A colleague, in charge of a student teacher’s grade, decided on a whim, “Not good enough to pass,” after weeks on the job. She paid for it by having to spend summer defending her knee-jerk decision. What IS that? Formality, responsibility, goes out the window given undeserved power?

Would Trump’s MAGA idjits, elected based on big-mouthed contrariness, as of representative of their constituents, have EVER brought value? A bunch of Apprentice contestants.

Mass social-media has made a joke of the ideal of responsible (informed) democracy. Contrariness, loud-mouth self-admiring, unimpressive simple naysayers, as King.

I don’t know one single Democrat who has been polled. So let’s call the bullshit put out by the right what it is. Let’s start doing OUR own polls! There are more of us: fact.

Expand full comment

You are correct. Unsure of the source but I recall a small part in a clip of trump's miss deeds. It was of his campaigns attempt to change polling to their favor.

this is a financial times/ uof M poll- there is no methodology mentioned. im guessing its widely unscientific

Unfortunately MAGA either don't, or can't read. I think they know the information they receive is from Vlad filtered through Republicans and Foxaganda network. The are so well versed in bullshit it is astounding.

WOW, if you're going to state that a group of people are incapable of reading, ...probably best to use a grammar checker before reflecting your own level of intelligence.

I do not trust or believe these polls. Women are going to rise up and shut down this garbage at the polls.

Looks to me like Biden is gaining- 5 pts … moved from the “ neither” column to the Biden column… this is good… Now if msm & everyone would begin stating facts, showing the numbers & Giving Credit to Biden & his policies that are responsible for all the progress… while the republicans voted against every policy that is now helping their own constituents… they take credit when funds come - it should be stated relentlessly that the republican representatives voted against it, & thank the democrats that did…

Fortunately I don’t believe in the polls. There are many more people out there like my husband and I who don’t reply to random phone calls, emails or texts. Wait till November!
